Honored Servant Leader (2026-02-16)

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. (Hebrews 10:24)

Today’s United States Holiday sparked this Spiritual GEM regarding leadership honor in God’s Kingdom.

Today’s scripture, Matthew 20:25-28 (NLT) says…But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. [26] But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, [27] and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. [28] For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Consider…
Today in the United States of America is Presidents’ Day which is set aside to honor U.S. presidents.

Honoring leaders of nations is common place in the world. Yet on this Presidents’ Day the Holy Spirit shined the light on Psalms 46:10 (NLT)…“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”

Far too often we get so enamored with our nations and world leaders that we forget to honor the Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

Paul testifies in 1 Timothy 6:15-16 (NLT)…For, At just the right time Christ will be revealed from heaven by the blessed and only almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords. [16] He alone can never die, and he lives in light so brilliant that no human can approach him. No human eye has ever seen him, nor ever will. All honor and power to him forever! Amen.

There’s no one equal to, or should be revered more than our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

In fact God Himself says in Philippians 2:9-11 (NLT)…Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, [10] that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, [11] and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Clearly Jesus has the highest honor as Lord of all, however we must not miss why God honored Him.

Philippians 2:5-8 (NLT) tells us…You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. [6] Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. [7] Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, [8] he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

Jesus was Humble, Obedient and True (loyal) to God! This is the attitude Christ’s followers are required to have.

It was Jesus’ Servant, rather than Sovereign, Leadership that led God to honor Him. Indeed it was the Great I AM becoming the least I will, that caused God the Father love Him.

Jesus said in John 10:11, 17-18 (NLT)…“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep…[17] “The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again. [18] No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.”

So whenever we pause, like today in the U.S., to honor leaders, let’s make sure remember the greatest leader of all, Jesus the LORD who served us by giving His life as a ransom for us who believe in Him!

BTW, the best way to honor Jesus is to proclaim Him Lord of ALL of your life!

Today’s song is…
You Are Lord Of All

Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
