Prioritize God’s Word (2026-01-06)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

As mentioned yesterday, Pastor Foley preached from today’s scripture. He gave us the three ‘P’s for God’s prosperity. It’s my plan to present each one over the next three days.

Today’s scripture, Joshua 1:8 (NKJV) still instructs…This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Consider…
According to today’s verse, as explained by Pastor Foley, prioritizing God’s word is the first key to achieving God-success.

So what does prioritizing God’s word look like? Well, 1 Peter 2:2 (AMP) describes it like this…like newborn babies [you should] long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may be nurtured and grow in respect to salvation [its ultimate fulfillment],

And as our Role Model recites in Luke 4:4 (NKJV)…But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’ ”

Prioritizing God’s word is making it our primary source of nourishment.

In addition to finding nutritional value, Psalms 1:2-3 (NLT) describes…But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. [3] They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

Prioritizing God’s word looks like delight, which as AI Overview explained before biblically means…

  • finding deep pleasure, satisfaction, and joy in God’s word,
  • willingly bending to His will revealed in His word,
  • enjoying His presence experienced in His word,
  • and valuing Him above His gifts, leading to desires that align with His purposes expressed in His word

I like the way Psalms 119:97, 103 (NLT) illustrates delight…Oh, how I love your instructions! I think about them all day long.
[103] How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey.

Reasons to love God’s word are revealed in Psalms 19:7-11 (NLT)…The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul. The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. [8] The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living. [9] Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair. [10] They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. [11] They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.

We should love and prioritize God’s word because it’s good for us. Let’s bullet what we just read. God’s word…

  • revives the soul.
  • makes wise the simple.
  • brings joy to the heart.
  • gives insight for living.
  • is more desirable than gold.
  • is sweeter than honey.
  • is a warning to God’s servant.
  • a great reward for those who obey it.

Psalms 119:165 (NLT) summarizes the benefit of loving God’s word this way…Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble.

The last reason the Holy Spirit gave me today for prioritizing God’s word, is because everything began with His Word. John 1:1, 4 (NLT) testifies…In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[4] The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.

I know Jesus is the Word, but I don’t think it’s accidental that the Son of God self identified as the eternal Word. You see the same Jesus who said in John 8:12 (NLT)…“I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

Inspired the Psalmist in Psalms 119:105 (NLT) to testify…Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.

God gave us His Word to light our way through this life. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT) explains…All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. [17] God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

So today, and everyday, prioritize God’s word because it alone leads to God-success, which is the good work He pre-planned for us to accomplish. (Ephesians 2:10)

Today’s song is…
Word Of God Speak

Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
