Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Let’s continue our Thanksgiving, by focusing on the LORD’s goodness.
Today’s scripture, Psalms 107:1 (NLT) says…
[1] Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.
Consider…
‘Good’ is one of those words, like love, that is haphazardly thrown around. Because it’s used so much, it’s meaningfulness is diluted.
Accordingly, I looked at Oxford Languages for definitions of ‘good’. It says that good means…
- to be desired or approved of…Psalms 34:8 (NLT)…Taste and see that the LORD is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!
- that which is morally right; righteousness…Mark 10:18 (NLT)…“Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is truly good.
- benefit or advantage to someone or something…Lamentations 3:25 (NLT)…The LORD is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him.
To be clear, Oxford Languages provided the definitions, and the Holy Spirit provided the biblical confirmations.
There are three things the Holy Spirit gave me to highlight about thanking the LORD for being God and proclaiming His goodness.
- It is GOOD…Psalms 92:1-4 (NLT) says…It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to the Most High. [2] It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning, your faithfulness in the evening, [3] accompanied by a ten-stringed instrument, a harp, and the melody of a lyre. [4] You thrill me, LORD, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done.
- He is GOOD…Psalms 100:5 (NLT) proclaims…For the LORD is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
- He makes everything GOOD…Genesis 1:31 (NIV) says…God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
…The Holy Spirit gave me a bonus reference about God making everything good…Romans 8:28 (NLT) affirms…And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
It’s easy to see the easy association of God and good. As a matter of fact, you can’t spell good without GOD!
A couple of additional thoughts pertaining to the LORD’s goodness are…
- It readily and reliably available…Psalms 27:13 (NLT) testifies…Yet I am confident I will see the LORD’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living.
- It pursues…Psalms 23:6 (NLT) testifies…Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.
Of course Psalm 23:6 hits play on CeCe Winans anthem that says…
I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I’ve been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
‘Cause all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God
And we love proclaiming with her…
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
With my life laid down, I surrendered now
I give You everything, oh Lord
Your goodness is running after, it’s running after me
Lastly, the Holy Spirit wants us to thank God for being good and proclaim His goodness because it’s unconditional and universal.
Psalms 145:9 (NLT) explains…
[9] The LORD is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation.
That makes me think of a fun Cory Asbury song that says…
[Verse 1]
I waited patiently upon the Lord
And He inclined and heard my cry
He pulled me up out of the miry clay
He set my feet upon the Rock
[Verse 2]
He gave me beauty for ashes
And joy for my mourning
And praise for heaviness
He put a new song in my mouth and a
Crown upon my head
He gave me life forevermore
[Chorus]
He’s been
So good, so, so good to me
So good, so, so good to me
So good, so, so good to me, Jesus
Yeah, He’s been
So good, so, so good to me
So good, so, so good to me
So good, so, so good to me, Jesus
Yeah, He’s been
Then it’s gets really fun at…
[Bridge 2]
I’ve got
Love, joy, peace and righteousness
(He picked me up and He turned me around)
In the Holy Spirit
(And He placed my feet on the solid ground)
(Hallelujah, hallelujah)
I’ve got
Love, joy, peace and righteousness
(He picked me up and He turned me around)
In the Holy Spirit
(And He placed my feet on the solid ground)
(Hallelujah, hallelujah)
I’ve got
Love, joy, peace and righteousness
(He picked me up and He turned me around)
In the Holy Spirit
(And He placed my feet on the solid ground)
(Hallelujah, hallelujah)
I’ve got
Love, joy, peace and righteousness
(He picked me up and He turned me around)
In the Holy Spirit
(And He placed my feet on the solid ground)
(Hallelujah, hallelujah)
Prayerfully today’s post inspires you to meditate on the LORD being and doing good, and thank Him and proclaim His goodness accordingly.
