Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

The Holy Spirit woke me up this morning with today’s song, that declares the name we can call on for relief.
Today’s scripture, Acts of the Apostles 3:5-6 (NLT) shares…
[5] The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. [6] But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!”
Consider…
I am a fan of technology, it helps us do things more efficiently and effectively. One thing I have come to appreciate tremendously is voice command tech, like…
- Smartphones
- Alexa or Google Assistant
- Vehicle OnStar
- Google Maps, and other navigation apps
…to name a few.
My favorite of these technology wonders are Alexa and Google Assistant. That’s because, you activate their assistance by calling their name. You can ask for information or command it to perform a task, like turn on a light.
Speaking of a light, we’re told that name aided assistance preceded technology by milineas. The Light of the world said in John 14:13-14 (NLT)…
[13] You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. [14] Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!
I imagine Peter and John remembered hearing Jesus say these words when they encountered a lame man looking for some relief.
That’s a great lesson, when we encounter struggles, remember what Jesus said…
You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it
That should make us want to call on the name of Jesus!
That observation put record player needle down on Todd Delaney singing…
We love to call Your name
It’s something we cannot explain
That happens when we proclaim
Your Great Name, Your Great Name
King Jesus
No other name
King Jesus (None stronger)
None stronger
We can call on You
Things change, yes
When we call on Your name
Later in the song, brother Todd chants…
There is power in the name of Jesus
Power in Your name
There is power in the name of Jesus
Power in Your name
And then this psalmist testifies…
Things change when we call You Jesus (Things change when)
Things change when we call Your name (Something happens when I call)
Things change when we call You Jesus
Things change when we call Your name (Say I’m free when)
I’m free when I call You Jesus (When I call Your name)
I’m free when I call Your name
I’m free when I call You Jesus (I feel much better when I call You God)
I’m free when I call Your name (We say when I call)
We say when I call Your name
(When I call Your name)
When I call Your name
(When I call Your name)
Demons tremble at the name
(When I call Your name)
I feel much stronger when I call
(When I call Your name)
This could have easily been today’s song, but so could brother Chris Tomlin’s song that declares…
The name of Jesus is a refuge
A shelter from the storm, a help to those who call
The name of Jesus is a fortress
A saving place to run, a hope unshakable
When we fall You are the Savior, when we call You are the answer
There is power in Your name, there is power in Your name
In the name of Jesus
There is life and healing
Chains are broken in Your name
Every knee will bow down and our hearts will cry out
Songs of freedom in Your name, oh, in Your name
Or I could have chosen sister Katy Nichole’s song that encourages…
I speak the name of Jesus over you
In your hurting, in your sorrow
I will ask my God to move
I speak the name ’cause it’s all that I can do
In desperation, I’ll seek Heaven
And pray this for you
I pray for your healing
That circumstances would change
I pray that the fear inside would flee in Jesus name
I pray that a breakthrough would happen today
I pray miracles over your life in Jesus name, in Jesus name
As you can see, I could have easily made a playlist focused on tapping into the power found in Jesus name.
When I think of the power found in Jesus name, I think of His saving power, as affirmed in Romans 10:12-13 (NLT)…
[12] Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. [13] For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.”
I also think of the resurrection power found in Jesus name, like we witness in Acts of the Apostles 9:36-40 (NLT)…
[36] There was a believer in Joppa named Tabitha (which in Greek is Dorcas). She was always doing kind things for others and helping the poor. [37] About this time she became ill and died. Her body was washed for burial and laid in an upstairs room. [38] But the believers had heard that Peter was nearby at Lydda, so they sent two men to beg him, “Please come as soon as possible!” [39] So Peter returned with them; and as soon as he arrived, they took him to the upstairs room. The room was filled with widows who were weeping and showing him the coats and other clothes Dorcas had made for them. [40] But Peter asked them all to leave the room; then he knelt and prayed. Turning to the body he said, “Get up, Tabitha.” And she opened her eyes! When she saw Peter, she sat up!
Now my literalists may say, I don’t see Jesus’ name, but let me direct your attention to the sequence of the resurrection…
- Peter asked them all to leave the room
- room; then he knelt and prayed. (No doubt in Jesus name)
- Turning to the body he said, “Get up, Tabitha.”
The Holy Spirit just showed me why Peter probably prayed rather than declared in this relief effort. Recall Mark 9:28-29 (NLT), which is Peter’s account of the gospel, says…
[28] Afterward, when Jesus was alone in the house with his disciples, they asked him, “Why couldn’t we cast out that evil spirit?” [29] Jesus replied, “This kind can be cast out only by prayer.”
The Holy Spirit is telling us there are somethings we can declare, and somethings that require prayer, but everything must be in Jesus’ name.
That just reminded, calling on the name of the Lord for relief is not just a new testament thing. Recall, 1 Kings 17:17-22 (NLT) shares…
[17] Some time later the woman’s son became sick. He grew worse and worse, and finally he died. [18] Then she said to Elijah, “O man of God, what have you done to me? Have you come here to point out my sins and kill my son?” [19] But Elijah replied, “Give me your son.” And he took the child’s body from her arms, carried him up the stairs to the room where he was staying, and laid the body on his bed. [20] Then Elijah cried out to the LORD, “O LORD my God, why have you brought tragedy to this widow who has opened her home to me, causing her son to die?” [21] And he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to the LORD, “O LORD my God, please let this child’s life return to him.” [22] The LORD heard Elijah’s prayer, and the life of the child returned, and he revived!
The Holy Spirit used this familiar story to point out, the reason there’s power in the name of Jesus is because we’re asking God for His help directly. Said another, when we call on the name of Jesus, we are accessing the SOURCE of relief.
Remember I just shared two resurrection testimonials? Well, let me remind you that John 11:25 (NLT) says…
[25] Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying.
I don’t know who this is for, but the Holy Spirit is saying pray over your dead situation in Jesus name, and believe it will live again.
To emphasize His point, the Holy Spirit led me to Ezekiel 37:4-6 (NLT)…
[4] Then he said to me, “Speak a prophetic message to these bones and say, ‘Dry bones, listen to the word of the LORD! [5] This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Look! I am going to put breath into you and make you live again! [6] I will put flesh and muscles on you and cover you with skin. I will put breath into you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’”
The Holy Spirit just showed me that when we call upon the name of the Jesus our Lord, we tell our struggles and stress to listen to the Word of God! Here’s the secret, all creation must obey the Creator!
So what do we do with all of this? The Holy Spirit is having me redeem an old commercial that said…
R O L A I D S spells relief for acid indigestion, heartburn, and gas.
To…
J E S U S spells relief for everything that ails us!
Use it to declare, and in prayer to change your situations.
Today’s song is…
I Know A Name
Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
