The Keeping It Simple Savior’s Timeline (2025-08-26)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

The Holy Spirit wants us to be on pay attention to the simple instead of waiting on God for the spectacular.

Today’s scripture, 2 Kings 5:9-14 (ERV) shares…
[9] So Naaman came with his horses and chariots to Elisha’s house and stood outside the door. [10] Elisha sent a messenger to Naaman who said, “Go and wash in the Jordan River seven times. Then your skin will be healed, and you will be pure and clean.” [11] Naaman became angry and left. He said, “I thought Elisha would at least come out and stand in front of me and call on the name of the LORD his God. I thought he would wave his hand over my body and heal the leprosy. [12] Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, are better than all the water in Israel. Why can’t I wash in those rivers in Damascus and become clean?” He was very angry and turned to leave. [13] But Naaman’s servants went to him and talked to him. They said, “Father, if the prophet told you to do some great thing, you would do it, isn’t that right? But he said, ‘Wash, and you will be pure and clean.’” [14] So Naaman did what the man of God said. He went down and dipped himself in the Jordan River seven times, and he became pure and clean. His skin became soft like the skin of a baby.

Consider…
The parable of The Drowning Man

A fellow was stuck on his rooftop in a flood. He was praying to God for help.

Soon a man in a rowboat came by and the fellow shouted to the man on the roof, “Jump in, I can save you.”

The stranded fellow shouted back, “No, it’s OK, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me.”

So the rowboat went on.

Then a motorboat came by. “The fellow in the motorboat shouted, “Jump in, I can save you.”

To this the stranded man said, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.”

So the motorboat went on.

Then a helicopter came by and the pilot shouted down, “Grab this rope and I will lift you to safety.”

To this the stranded man again replied, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.”

So the helicopter reluctantly flew away.

Soon the water rose above the rooftop and the man drowned. He went to Heaven. He finally got his chance to discuss this whole situation with God, at which point he exclaimed, “I had faith in you but you didn’t save me, you let me drown. I don’t understand why!”

To this God replied, “I sent you a rowboat and a motorboat and a helicopter, what more did you expect?

Many of us have heard this story, and been rightfully told, don’t miss God because He didn’t show up the way you expected.

Both this story and today’s scripture reveals, people miss God looking for the spectacular, when He operates in the simple.

For example, we read in 1 Kings 19:10-12 (ERV)…
[10] Elijah answered, “LORD God All-Powerful, I have always served you the best I can, but the Israelites have broken their agreement with you. They destroyed your altars and killed your prophets. I am the only prophet left alive, and now they are trying to kill me!” [11] Then the LORD said to Elijah, “Go, stand in front of me on the mountain. I, the LORD, will pass by you.” Then a very strong wind blew. The wind caused the mountains to break apart. It broke large rocks in front of the LORD. But that wind was not the LORD. After that wind, there was an earthquake. But that earthquake was not the LORD. [12] After the earthquake, there was a fire. But that fire was not the Lord. After the fire, there was a quiet, gentle voice.

Notice, the LORD simply spoke to Elijah to let him know that He was near.

The Holy Spirit quipped, it’s funny how people can be talking with God, asking Him for something and miss the fact that He was there all the time.

That hit play on James Moore singing…

He was there all the time
He was there all the time
Waiting patiently in light
He was there all the time

When I felt like giving up
He was there all the time
He was there all the time
Waiting patiently in light
The Lord was there, the Lord was there
Jesus was there all the time

I humbly submit many of us tend to miss God right in front of us because we’re looking for Him to show up in a more spectacular way.

Could it be that we miss God because we want to have a bigger story than His glory?

Or could it be we’re thrown off by what He asks us to do? Like the woman at the well in John 4:7-10 (ERV)…
[7] A Samaritan woman came to the well to get some water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” [8] This happened while his followers were in town buying some food. [9] The woman answered, “I am surprised that you ask me for a drink! You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman!” (Jews have nothing to do with Samaritans.) [10] Jesus answered, “You don’t know what God can give you. And you don’t know who I am, the one who asked you for a drink. If you knew, you would have asked me, and I would have given you living water.”

Two thoughts just occurred in my mind…

  • We sometimes miss God based on our biases of how He should look and act.

The Holy Spirit reminded me that Hebrews 13:1-2 (ERV)
exhorts…
[1] Continue loving each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. [2] Always remember to help people by welcoming them into your home. Some people have done that and have helped angels without knowing it.

Thought number two is…

  • If we only knew, it was God speaking, we would do, what He ask.

As I wrote that, the Holy Spirit dropped in a couple of additional thoughts…

  • Thought number three is sometimes we’re so busy challenging or questioning God, that we miss what He’s offering us.

John 4:11-13 (ERV) continues the exchange between Jesus and woman at the well…
[11] The woman said, “Sir, where will you get that living water? The well is very deep, and you have nothing to get water with. [12] Are you greater than our ancestor Jacob? He is the one who gave us this well. He drank from it himself, and his sons and all his animals drank from it too.” [13] Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again.

Don’t miss God because you think what He’s offering is impossible. Remember…

  • God declares in Jeremiah 32:27 (NLT)…“I am the LORD, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me?
  • Jesus explained in Matthew 19:26 (NLT)…“Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”

…We must always know and believe, like the three Hebrew Boys, God can and will provide!

  • Thought number four is sometimes we’re so busy focusing on the temporary relief from our grief that we miss out on God’s eternal relief flowing through our belief.

The Holy Spirit reminded me that Jesus said in John 6:47-48 (ERV)…
[47] “I can assure you that anyone who believes has eternal life. [48] I am the bread that gives life.”

The Holy Spirit says stop settling for sandwiches when the Bread that gives eternal life is being offered.

I find it interesting that Jesus doesn’t identify Himself as steak or lobster, rather just a simple loaf bread. That’s because everyone can’t afford the finest things in life, but everyone can have the simple ones.

Well, that’ll it do it for today. The Holy Spirit is telling me to leave you with God’s KISS Divine timeline alerts…

Whenever you’re in need,
Listen and heed
The Keep It Simple Savior’s instructions

And know and believe God can and will provide
So there’s no need to be dismayed whate’er betides
Because God will take care of you, albeit without productions

God’s divine timeline cautions us to not miss Him in the simple waiting on the spectacular.

Today’s song is…
Still Small Voice
