Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today, the Holy Spirit brought the television show Star Trek into my remembrance, specifically Spock’s “Mind Meld”. As the Holy Spirit does, He is redeeming the “Mind Meld” for God’s purpose.
Today’s scripture, Philippians 2:5 (KJV), exhorts…
[5] Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

A mind meld, in its original and literal sense, refers to a telepathic union between two individuals, allowing for the sharing of thoughts and feelings. This concept originates from the science fiction series Star Trek, where the Vulcan race possesses this ability. More broadly, “mind meld” can be used to describe a deep and intuitive understanding or connection between two people, a kind of “meeting of the minds”.
Elaboration:
Star Trek Origin:
The term “mind meld” first appeared in the Star Trek episode “Dagger of the Mind”. It describes a technique used by Vulcans to merge their minds with another individual, allowing for the transfer of knowledge, emotions, and even memories.
Telepathic Aspect:
The core of a mind meld in Star Trek is the telepathic element, where thoughts are directly shared between individuals.
Deep Connection:
In a more general sense, “mind meld” signifies a profound connection between two people, where they understand each other on a deep level, often without needing explicit communication.
Today’s verse made me think of a spiritual “Mind Meld”.
The Holy Spirit showed me, we can’t understand spiritual things without a “mind meld” with Christ. The scripture that was provided as support is 1 Corinthians 2:14-16 (NLT), which says…
[14] But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. [15] Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. [16] For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.
Notice, our understanding of God’s truths comes from having the mind of Christ.
As I wrote that, the Holy Spirit reminded me Christ is our Head, and is in control. Ephesians 1:22-23 (NLT) explains…
[22] God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. [23] And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.
Pay attention to the end of verse 23, which says, “made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.
“
The idea of Christ filling us with Himself, once again makes me think of a “mind meld”.
Although it makes sense that we must meld our minds with Christ, we can appreciate Christ melded His mind with ours. Three scriptures come to mind in support of this conclusion:
John 1:14 (NLT) testifies…
[14] So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
And Philippians 2:6-8 (NLT) affirms…
[6] Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. [7] Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, [8] he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
As well as Hebrews 4:14-16 (NLT) attests…
[14] So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. [15] This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. [16] So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
The fact that the Creator became the created to fully understand us is incomprehensible! It also makes me hear Hezekiah Walker singing…
If in your life you are going through
And you don’t know really what to do
Just call in Jesus, he will see you through
For he knows
Jesus he knows
If there’s a trial to that has come your way
And you are looking for a brighter day
Just call in Jesus, he will make a way
For he knows
Jesus he knows
How much
We can bear
Jesus he knows
How much
We can bear
It’s truly a blessing to know God, but it’s a far greater blessing to be known by God!
Writing that hit play on Tauren Wells singing…
It’s so unusual, it’s frightening
You see right through the mess inside me
And you call me out to pull me in
You tell me I can start again
And I don’t need to keep on hiding
I’m fully known and loved by You
You won’t let go no matter what I do
And it’s not one or the other
It’s hard truth and ridiculous grace
To be known fully known and loved by You
I’m fully known and loved by You
While being known by God is truly amazing, it’s also a reminder that relationship is an emphasis with Him. To illustrate this, the Holy Spirit sent me to Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:21-23 (NLT)…
[21] “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. [22] On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ [23] But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’
You see we demonstrate knowing God by doing what He says. However, it’s unnatural to do the supernatural in our natural minds. That’s why Romans 12:2 (NLT)
tells us…
[2] Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
God has to transform our thinking to understand His thoughts.
Also, Ephesians 4:23-24 (NLT) exhorts us…
[23] Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. [24] Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
Notice the God’s Spirit has to refresh our thoughts and attitudes in order for to operate in the sameness of God.
Another thought about this “mind meld”, is coexistence, which reminds me of Jesus saying in John 15:4-5 (NLT)…
[4] Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. [5] “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.
Although many Christians theme verse is Philippians 4:13 (KJV)…
[13] I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
…based on John 15, the opposite is also true, we can’t do anything without Christ! Therefore, stop trying to do things on your own!
I liked the way a Pastor Stephen Furtick said it, paraphrasing…
if you include God in your decisions, you won’t have to ask Him to get you out of your situations.
The Holy Spirit has shown me, God clearly wants to change align our minds with His. Thus, I encourage you to follow the example of Spock from Star Trek, and “mind meld” with God!
Bonus thought…if you want to get your mind right, meld with Christ’s righteous mind!
Today’s song is…
