Enabling Presence Of The Holy Spirit (2025-06-09)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

On Sunday, the day of Pentecost was celebrated by Christians. That inspired me to meditate on the Holy Spirit this week. Let’s start with text most preachers used.

Today’s scripture, Acts of the Apostles 2:1-6 (NLT) shares…
[1] On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. [2] Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. [3] Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. [4] And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. [5] At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem. [6] When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers.

Consider…
I listened to a couple of very good sermons that highlighted the language barriers that the Holy Spirit broke through. But that’s not where the Lord is leading me to explore today’s scripture. Instead, I am being led to share some simple, yet transformational observations.

For example, verse one shares all believers were meeting on one accord for the Lord! The observation is simply, Jesus, speaking on behalf of God, said in Matthew 18:20 (NLT)…
[20] For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”

If you want to experience the presence of God, find a fellow believer or two and get together on one accord to worship the Lord.

Another simple observation is the Holy Spirit reveals Himself to our senses…

  • Hearing…there was a sound from heaven
  • Touch…it filled the house where they were sitting
  • Sight…looked like flames
  • Taste…tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them

Simple stated, if you’re focused on God, the Holy Spirit will let you know that you’re in God’s presence.

Look at what the Apostle Paul says in Romans 8:14-16 (NLT)…
[14] For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. [15] So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” [16] For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.

When we let the Holy Spirit have control, He let’s us know, we’re God’s children.

Therefore, we should follow Brother Paul’s exhortation from Galatians 5:25 (NLT)…
[25] Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

This leads me to another observation from today’s text, which is the Holy Spirit is an enabler. Notice verse 4 says…
everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.

A typical thought about the enabling power of the Holy Spirit is associated with His gifts. However, the Lord led me to another very important leading found in Galatians 5:16 (NLT), which says…
[16] So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.

We’re unable to live Godly lives without the Holy Spirit’s enablement. In fact 2 Peter 1:3-4 (NLT) expressly states…
[3] By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. [4] And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

The Holy Spirit is the Divine power of God in our lives that empowers us to live godly.

As a matter of fact, our salvation came through the Holy Spirit. Titus 3:4-6 (NLT) explains…
[4] But…When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, [5] he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. [6] He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior.

All God’s life work, from…

  • Genesis to Revelation
  • Birth to rebirth
  • Creation to regeneration

…is done

  • by God the Father
  • via the Holy Spirit
  • through Jesus Christ the Son

As the Holy Spirit showed me this, He reminded me that in John 3:3, 6-8 (NLT)…
[3] Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
[6] Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. [7] So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ [8] The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.”

Eternal life with God is about the spiritual, not physical. We must recognize that God is most concerned with our Spiritual living, not our physical dying. That’s why Paul was inspired to write in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NLT)…
[16] That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. [17] For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! [18] So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Notice, our spirit is renewed.

So today, let’s pay special attention to the Holy Spirit, who makes us spiritual, which is how we will live eternal.

Indeed let’s live mindful of Romans 8:11 (NLT)…
[11] The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

It’s impossible to…

  • be who God created you to be
  • live how God destined you to live
  • do what God purposed you to do

…without the Holy Spirit

Let the Holy Spirit show up in, and through you today.

Today’s song is…
I Need Your Spirit

Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
