Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Another example of an activation clause that the Holy Spirit highlighted comes from…
Today’s scripture, Genesis 12:1-7 (NIV)…
[1] The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. [2] “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. [3] I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” [4] So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. [5] He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. [6] Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. [7] The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.
Consider…
Full transparency, today’s thoughts are inspired by the sermon I heard from Jonathan Evans last Sunday. He used today’s scripture to preach on Kingdom Legacy.
Highlights from the message that stuck with me included…
- God chose you, and He doesn’t make mistakes
- God’s blessings to you are meant to flow through you. Also, God sends His blessings to conduits, not cul-de-sacs.
- You have to go where God will show
It’s that last point that stood out to me. Jonathan pointed out the fact that God told Abraham to “Go…where I will show”.
That means our going activates God’s showing. More specifically going without knowing (faith) activates what God’s showing.
This brings 2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV) to mind…For we walk by faith, not by sight.
And that verse plays the hymn lyrics…
We’ve come this far by faith
Leaning on the Lord
Trusting in his holy word
He’s never failed me yet
Oh oh oh oh oh oh
Can’t turn around
We’ve come this far by faith
The Holy Spirit emphasized, God wants us to walk with Him by faith.
That strikes up another hymn, that says…
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obey
Notice, the lyrics say ‘when we walk with Lord’! The Holy Spirit is emphasizing God wants us to walk with Him.
Thinking about walking with the Lord, inspired me to Read verse 1 from today’s scripture again. A hidden gem in the verse is, the only way God could show Abraham which way to go and where to stop was by leading him all the way. God didn’t have Abraham aimlessly wander, and He doesn’t tell us to either. In fact Jesus said in John 10:27 (NLT)…My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
Notice, like Abraham, we listen and follow. That tells us, activating God’s Kingdom legacy in us requires…
- We know and listen to God’s voice
- We obediently follow His direction
Speaking of following, I hear the hymn lyrics…
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.
Tho’ none go with me, I still will follow,
Tho’ none go with me I still will follow,
Tho’ none go with me, I still will follow;
No turning back, no turning back.
My cross I’ll carry, till I see Jesus;
My cross I’ll carry till I see Jesus,
My cross I’ll carry till I see Jesus;
No turning back, No turning back.
The world behind me, the cross before me,
The world behind me, the cross before me;
The world behind me, the cross before me;
No turning back, no turning back.
God requires our commitment to following Jesus. The reason we must follow Jesus is because John 14:6 (NLT) says…Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
The only way we can see/be with God the Father is by following Jesus His Son.
Having shown us the activating actions of going, where God says, by following where Jesus leads, the Holy Spirit pivoted to His Kingdom legacy fulfillment.
Pastor Evans pointed out how Abraham’s obedience led to our salvation through His descendant Jesus Christ! Abraham had to go where God showed to activate the Kingdom legacy He promised.
Galatians 3:26-29 (NLT) confirms…
[26] For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. [27] And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. [28] There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. [29] And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.
The Holy Spirit then showed me that we too have a Kingdom legacy. Our Kingdom legacy is living properly where God has allowed us to live. 1 Peter 2:12 (NLT). The verse says…Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors. Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.
The Lord expounded on our Kingdom legacy in Romans 12:14-18 (NLT), which tells us to…
[14] Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. [15] Be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep. [16] Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all! [17] Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. [18] Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.
As I read this passage, the Holy Spirit emphasized verse 17 says, “Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.”
You see Kingdom legacy is about bringing honor to the King.
With that, the Holy Spirit said, wherever you go, is where God wants to get glory by blessing others through you.
Jesus said it this way, in Matthew 5:16 (NIV)…In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
So today…
- Listen to God
- Go where He says
- By following where Jesus leads
- And be the blessing conduit that He’s blessed you to be.
Kingdom legacy is living so others can see, and honor, the King.
Today’s song is…
Where He Leads Me
Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
