Reverencing Majesty (2025-04-08)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Let’s continue our reverence journey with acknowledging the LORD’s majesty.

Today’s scripture, Psalms 93:1-2 (NLT) declares…
[1] The LORD is king! He is robed in majesty. Indeed, the LORD is robed in majesty and armed with strength. The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. [2] Your throne, O LORD, has stood from time immemorial. You yourself are from the everlasting past.

Consider…
Today’s scripture says the LORD is robed in majesty. Curious, I did a Google search for majesty and found Oxford Languages definitions…

  • impressive stateliness, dignity, or beauty.
  • royal power.

Additionally, Merriam-Webster defines majesty as…

  • sovereign power, authority, or dignity.
  • used in addressing or referring to reigning sovereigns and their consorts.

The second definition from Merriam-Webster led me to look at Wikipedia’s take, which is…
Majesty (abbreviated HM for His Majesty or Her Majesty, oral address Your Majesty; from the Latin maiestas, meaning ‘greatness’) is used as a manner of address by many monarchs, usually kings or queens.

But the one that captured it best for me was from desiringgod.org, which said…
Majesty brings together both greatness and goodness, both strength and beauty

That’s awesome! The LORD is clothed in both GREATNESS AND GOODNESS.

The makes me hear brother Ernest Pugh singing…
We will worship the Lord
(We will worship the Lord)
With praise we’ll sing
(With praise we’ll sing)
And we’ll shout in all the earth
(And we’ll shout in all the earth that Jesus is our king)
He deserves glory
(He deserves glory)
Yes
(He deserves honor)
Sing (Sing hallelujah as we bless his name)

For He is the great I am (For He is the great I am)
For He is the great I am (For He is the great I am)
For He is the great I am (For He is the great I am)
For He is the great I am (For He is the great I am)

And sister CeCe Winans singing…
I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I’ve been held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

‘Cause all my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

In case you’re wondering why I am reminded of songs, when describing the LORD, it’s out of obedience to Ephesians 5:18-20 (NLT), which exhorts…
[18] Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, [19] singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. [20] And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Verse 19 expressly says making music to the Lord in our hearts.

In that same obedience, the definition I liked also said that the LORD is also clothed in both STRENGTH and BEAUTY, which makes me hear…

J.J. Hairston and Youthful Praise singing…

Say, Lord, You’re mighty (Lord, You’re mighty)
Lord, You’re mighty (Lord, You’re mighty)
Lord, You’re mighty (Lord, You’re mighty)
Lord, You’re mighty (Lord, You’re mighty)

Oh, Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth
You set Your glory above the Heavens and the Earth
When I think of all You’ve made, the sun, the moon and the stars
No praise is high enough to express how great You are

What a mighty God we serve, oh, ah
Mighty God we serve (oh, oh, oh)
Angels would bow before the mighty God we serve (oh)
What a mighty God we serve
Mighty God we serve
Let Heaven and the Earth adore the mighty God we serve

And Passion singing…

Let my heart not forget
Let my heart return again
To the wonder of a King
To the nearness of a Friend

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Jesus
How lovely, how sweet is the name
Oh, wonderful, merciful, miracle Jesus
How worthy, how precious, how awesome the name

My sampling of these four songs demonstrates how easy it is to find songs that acknowledge the Majesty of the LORD! More than that, these songs were selected to inspire you to make music to the LORD in your heart, especially when you think of His Majesty.

I believe when we pause and realize we’re addressing the King of kings, when we pray, we’d be more reverent. As a matter of fact, Jesus taught us to begin our prayers by reverencing God. Recall He taught us in Matthew 6:9 (NLT)
to…
[9] Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.

We must never get so complacent, or comfortable, with God that we forget He is Holy and deserving of our highest respect!

That thought just hit play on Natalie Grant singing…

I tried to fit you in the walls inside my mind
I try to keep you safely inbetween the lines
I try to put you in the box that I’ve designed
I try to pull you down so we are eye to eye

When did I forget that you’ve always been the king of the world?
I try to take life back right out of the hands of the king of the world
How could I make you so small
When you’re the one who holds it all
When did I forget that you’ve always been the king of the world

The Holy Spirit is telling me to end with the reminder of Psalms 100:2-3 (NLT), which tells us to…
[2] Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. [3] Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Today, pause and reverence King Jesus, who is robed in Majesty!

Today’s song is…
Majesty

Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
