Revealing Conversations (2025-01-31)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today we will pivot to a new type of conversation with God, which is one where he reveals the truth about us.

In today’s scripture, Matthew 12:33-37 (NLT), Jesus said…
[33] “A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad. [34] You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. [35] A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. [36] And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. [37] The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.”

Consider…
The moment the Holy Spirit gave me today’s post, I thought of the Samaritan woman at the well, which John 4:28-29 (NLT) shares…
[28] The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone, [29] “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?”

First, the Holy Spirit just showed me the woman being filled with the living water from Jesus Christ, left her old ways of satisfying her thirst behind.

That revelation hit play on Tremaine Hawkins singing…

A change, a change has come over me
He changed my life and now I’m free

And continuing…
Lord you’ve changed
Changed
You’ve changed my life complete
Changed
And now I sit
Changed
I sit at my saviours feet

Repeating…
A wonderful change has come over me
A wonderful change has come over me

Those lyrics, and the Samaritan woman’s actions paint the perfect picture of 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT), which says…
[17] This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

Encounters with God are transforming! That’s why the Apostle Paul encourages in Romans 12:2 (NLT)…
[2] Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Let the LORD change your mind and leave your old ways of living behind!

The second thought about this woman, is what her testimony was. She said, “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?”

This is profound, because Jesus talked about her plethora of husbands and current shacking relationship. Jesus’ straight talk wasn’t affirming niceties, but it was the truth. And here’s the key, it was the truth that set this woman shackled by guilt and condemnation free!

Jesus said in John 8:32 (NLT)…
[32] And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

And just 4 verses later in John 8:36 (NLT) He said…
[36] So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

The Holy Spirit just reminded me that Jesus came as the Light of the world, and that light reveals what hiding in the dark. Then Helper reminded me of John 8:12 (NLT) which says…
[12] Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

Wow, the Holy Spirit just added to my understanding that this woman kept on coming to a dark and dingy well to satisfy her thirst, that is until she met Jesus, the Light of the world, who lit her life up with His living water.

You may have dark and dingy wells that you have frequented trying to satisfy your thirst, the Holy Spirit is encouraging you today to Come To The Altar. I hear Elevation Worship singing…

Are you hurting and broken within?
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin?
Jesus is calling
Have you come to the end of yourself?
Do you thirst for a drink from the well?
Jesus is calling
O come to the altar
The Father’s arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ

I encourage you to let the Son-light break up all of the darkness in your life. Indeed to let Jesus, who is the Truth, set you free from the guilt and power of Sin.

Romans 8:1-2 (NLT) says it this way…
[1] So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. [2] And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

Christ died a criminal’s death so that we can live free.

As I have been writing this, I wondered why did the Holy Spirit give me today’s scripture to explain God’s revealing conversations? Fortunately, I didn’t have wait long for clarification because the Holy Spirit directed me to Jesus’ words in John 3:18-21 (NLT)…
[18] “There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son. [19] And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. [20] All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near it for fear their sins will be exposed. [21] But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.”

With those words, the revealing conversations with the Son became clear as day. You see light exposes everything good or bad that is hidden in the dark. The difference is that like roaches, people who love darkness scurry away from the light.

Therefore, the next time you are exposed to the light and truth of God, make sure you run to, rather than scurry from, them. In fact, I encourage you to ask God to work on you.

Today’s song is…
Work On Me

Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
