Appreciating One Another (2024-11-20)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Let’s take a moment today to appreciate one another.

Today’s scripture, Romans 12:10 (NLT), exhorts…
[10] Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.

Consider…
Today is the birthday of two very special people in my life.

The first is the person that I affectionately call my heart. I call her that because she has been one of my most favorite people in life. When I was a child, I used to love sleepovers at her home. I also remember the sleepovers included eating a large pizza and a full box of Lucky Charms all by myself. I also fondly remember how proud she was tell her friends and co-workers and anyone who would listen about her awesome baby brother. She was one of a handful of amazing women who made me feel extremely special. And she still makes me feel just as special over half a century later.

My ‘Heart’ has been, and continues to be, a shining example of today’s scripture. I forgot to mention, she’s the one that took, and takes, care of the health and welfare of the beloved seniors in our lives, including my mother, father, amazing aunts and others who have gone on to glory. In addition to her paying job as a nurse, she used and uses her God given gift of ‘helps’ to bless everyone who was/is blessed to do life with her.

I could go on and on, but suffice to say, I love and appreciate my ‘Heart’, and honor her today! 💓😘

The next person I am taking a moment to honor is my Mother-in-law, who ironically shares the same birth date as my ‘Heart’. I say it’s ironic because when Dana and I spoke about the most important and beloved people in our lives, we discovered they shared a birthday. We saw that as a sign from God that we were meant to be together. 😉

One of the reasons I appreciate my mother-in-law so much is because she considered me to be God’s choice of a husband for her beloved daughter (a.k.a. favorite child per my wife 😉). Furthermore, she welcomed me warmly into her family and immediately proceeded to make me feel special.

As I have gotten to know this special lady, I have become more impressed and appreciative of her. You see I have learned and witnessed how she supported and supports her family, both immediate and extended. Also, when I hear my wife and her siblings talk about their childhood, I hear Proverbs 31:28-29 (ERV), which says…
[28] Her children say good things about her. Her husband brags about her and says, [29] “There are many good women, but you are the best.”

In addition to her loving and supportive ways as a mother, she also loves and supports our church in prayer. She serves our congregation by praying with the prayer team that prays over our church on Saturdays, and with the congregants on Sunday morning before service begins. 🙏🏾 🙏🏾 🙏🏾

So why, did I dedicate a Daily Blessings post to honoring my ‘Heart’ (Cynthia Renee), and mother-in-law (Yasmine)?

It’s because as personally amazing as these women have been and continue to be, they’re even more amazing spiritually. I’ve already told you that Yasmine is part of our church’s prayer team, but I neglected to tell you that Renee is a Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) teacher, and has been for years. If you spend one second with either of these women of God you will know that they love the LORD with all their heart, mind, strength and soul. (Mark 12:30)

Today, I honor my ‘Heart’ and my mother-in-law in obedience to Proverbs 31:29-31 (ERV), which says…
[29] “There are many good women, but you are the best.” [30] Grace and beauty can fool you, but a woman who respects the Lord should be praised. [31] Give her the reward she deserves. Praise her in public for what she has done.

This tribute is to two amazing people in my life on their special day, but today’s scripture is meant to be part of our lifestyle in general. I encourage you to let the special people that God has placed in your life know that you love and appreciate them.

As I wrote that, the Holy Spirit just flashed across my mind, that the first and most important person on our list should be Jesus Christ our Lord.

Today genuinely love Jesus and others, and delight in honoring them so that they will know how much they mean to you.

I encourage you take a moment today to tell the Renee and Yasmine in your life that you love and appreciate them.

Today’s Song is…
I Appreciate You

Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
