Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today let’s tell the Lord that we know He’s Holy!
In today’s scripture, John 6:69 (NLT) Peter said…
[69] We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God.”
Consider…
Recall a time when you knew that you looked good or did something amazing. Most likely someone affirmed what you already knew. Nonetheless, their affirmation was welcomed and appreciated.
I believe that our Lord welcomes and appreciates us telling Him that He’s Holy.
Psalms 99:5 (NLT) tells us to…
[5] Exalt the Lord our God! Bow low before his feet, for he is holy!
And two verses earlier, Psalms 99:3 (NLT) instructs…
[3] Let them praise your great and awesome name. Your name is holy!
Or what about Jesus’ mother’s example in Luke 1:49 (NLT)…
[49] For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me.
These three scriptures show us God wants us to acknowledge He is holy.
This makes me wonder, when is the last time you or I told God He is Holy?
Speaking of telling God He is Holy, that’s how Jesus taught us to start our prayers in Matthew 6:9 (NLT). He said…
[9] Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
If that’s the way Jesus says to begin the Lord’s prayer, then shouldn’t we incorporate telling God He is Holy in our prayers too?
I wonder how our prayers would change if we started with acknowledging God’s Holiness. Perhaps we would follow Jesus’ lead, who followed ‘may your name be kept holy’ with Matthew 6:10 (NLT), which says….
[10] May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Thinking of God’s will being done here on earth as it is in Heaven, leads me to Revelation 4:7-8 (NLT) which says…
[7] The first of these living beings was like a lion; the second was like an ox; the third had a human face; and the fourth was like an eagle in flight. [8] Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty— the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”
The scripture says day after day and night after night the creatures kept saying “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty— the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” Accordingly, it stands to reason that God’s will includes us continually repeating that He is “Holy, holy, holy” in His presence. And, since God is omnipresent, which means everywhere all of the time, that means we should tell God He’s Holy everywhere all of the time.
I also believe acknowledging God’s Holiness would make us show more reverence to God. I say that because we read yesterday how the prophet Isaiah realized how sinful He was in the presence of the Holy God. (Isaiah 6:3-5)
Isaiah’s realization reminds me of my mom requiring me to say yes sir and yes ma’am to her and all adults. In addition to it being good manners, it also put me in the right headspace to interact with my mom or an adult with proper respect. In the same way, referring to God as Holy will put us in the right mindset to properly interact with Him.
I should mention being in the right mindset leads to maintaining the correct body posture. Back in the day, it used to amaze me that the meanest and most ruthless thugs, would straighten up with respect for their elders, especially their mother.
The memory reminds me of James 2:19 (NLT),
which says…
[19] You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.
Even the demons get some ‘act right’ when in the presence of God. This reminds me of Matthew 8:28-32 (NLT), which says…
[28] When Jesus arrived on the other side of the lake, in the region of the Gadarenes, two men who were possessed by demons met him. They came out of the tombs and were so violent that no one could go through that area. [29] They began screaming at him, “Why are you interfering with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture us before God’s appointed time?” [30] There happened to be a large herd of pigs feeding in the distance. [31] So the demons begged, “If you cast us out, send us into that herd of pigs.” [32] “All right, go!” Jesus commanded them. So the demons came out of the men and entered the pigs, and the whole herd plunged down the steep hillside into the lake and drowned in the water.
- Notice the demons recognized and acknowledged Jesus as the Son of God.
- Also pay attention to the fact that they knew they had curfew for roaming and doing devilment. I say that based on their statement, “Have you come here to torture us before God’s appointed time?”
- They asked for mercy, meaning that instead of being cast into the lake of fire, they asked to be cast into a nearby herd of pigs. You see they could survive drowning in a lake of water, but there’s no coming back from the fiery lake, which is the second death. (Revelation 21:8)
My point, is that demons recognize and respect the Holiness and authority of God and showed Him reverence. Those of us who are His children should show our Heavenly Father the same reverence.
Writing this runs my mind back to Psalms 99:5 (NLT), which declares…
[5] Exalt the Lord our God! Bow low before his feet, for he is holy!
When we recognize and acknowledge God is Holy, we should lift Him high, while bowing low. When is the last time you bowed before the Lord? I’m not talking just about getting on your knees to pray, I am including your thoughts and attitudes and everything you do and say. What would happen if before we said or did anything, we first paused and told God He’s Holy.
The Holy Spirit has made it abundantly clear that we must tell God He’s Holy, not because He doesn’t know it, but because He wants us to remember to act like it everywhere all the time.
Let’s start now, say “Lord, You’re Holy!”
Today’s Song is…
Lord, You’re Holy
Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
