Part Of The Returning Remnant (2024-10-10)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Let’s spend today making sure we’re part of the returning remnant.

Today’s scripture, Isaiah 10:21-22 (NLT) prophesied…
[21] A remnant will return; yes, the remnant of Jacob will return to the Mighty God. [22] But though the people of Israel are as numerous as the sand of the seashore, only a remnant of them will return. The Lord has rightly decided to destroy his people.

Consider…
The late great James Cleveland wrote a song that says…

When we get a little money
And get up on our feet
Why do we change
Whatever God gave you
Is no more than you need
Why can’t you remain the same
Today can be as bright as the noon day sun
Tomorrow you can wake up and everything you have is gone
Don’t forget to remember where all your blessings come from

It’s easy to lose track of the faithful goodness of God. That’s because God blesses us in many unspectacular ways that we take for granted. It makes me think of the children of Israel…

  • complained about being slaves and about being free in the wilderness
  • complained about being hungry and about only having bread to eat
  • complained about being stuck in the wilderness and about the giants in the promise land

How often do we complain to God about what we don’t have and then complain about what He gave us. We so easily forget to remember where all our blessings come from. No wonder God told His chosen people in Deuteronomy 6:10-12 (NLT)…
[10] “The Lord your God will soon bring you into the land he swore to give you when he made a vow to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It is a land with large, prosperous cities that you did not build. [11] The houses will be richly stocked with goods you did not produce. You will draw water from cisterns you did not dig, and you will eat from vineyards and olive trees you did not plant. When you have eaten your fill in this land, [12] be careful not to forget the Lord, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt.

The Lord’s admonition is still applicable to us today. Yet, we so easily forget where all of our blessings come from.

This also reminds me of the emblematic exchange in Luke 17:11-19 (NLT). Scripture says…
[11] As Jesus continued on toward Jerusalem, he reached the border between Galilee and Samaria. [12] As he entered a village there, ten men with leprosy stood at a distance, [13] crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” [14] He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy. [15] One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!” [16] He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan. [17] Jesus asked, “Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine? [18] Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” [19] And Jesus said to the man, “Stand up and go. Your faith has healed you.”

Notice…

  • ten asked Jesus to heal them
  • Jesus healed all ten
  • Jesus sent them to the experts to confirm their healing
  • only one returned to thank God for healing Him

I can’t believe the Holy Spirit just gave me a visual of the tithe, which is returning a tenth of all that God has given.

The Holy Spirit also showed me the leper who returned represents the remnant. The fact is God blesses everyone. (Matthew 5:45)

Today’s message is short and sweet, be the remnant who returns to God and thank Him for all of His blessings.

Today’s Song is…
I Am The One

Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
