Encouragement In Trusting An Unfailing God (2024-08-24)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today, we will conclude our week of encouragement by finding faith in a God who never fails.

Today’s scripture, 1 Peter 4:19 (NLT), encourages…
So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.

Consider…
One of my favorite songs growing up was a staple of my church’s senior choir. The chorus affirmed…

God never fails, God never fails
He abides in me
He gives me victory
For God never fails
You just keep the faith
and never cease to pray
Walk upright, Call Him day noon or night
He’ll be there
There’s no need to worry
For God never fails

Those reassuring words remain a source of encouragement for me still today. They are corroborated by today’s song, whose chorus says…

I trust in God, my Savior
The one who will never fail
He will never fail
I trust in God, my Savior
The one who will never fail
He will never fail

It’s good to know that we trust in a God who never fails.

My favorite line in today’s song is…

Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine
He’s been my fourth man in the fire, time after time

That strengthens my faith every time I recall it! What makes it so inspiring to me is the fact that God doesn’t promise to spare us from the fire (Daniel 3:24-25), or storm (Mark 4:36-38), or valley (Psalm 23:4), He is just with us in the midst of them.

There’s encouragement in knowing God is with us no matter where we go. The Psalmist said it this way in Psalms 139:7‭-‬12 (ERV)…
Your Spirit is everywhere I go. I cannot escape your presence. If I go up to heaven, you will be there. If I go down to the place of death, you will be there. If I go east where the sun rises or go to live in the west beyond the sea, even there you will take my hand and lead me. Your strong right hand will protect me. Suppose I wanted to hide from you and said, “Surely the darkness will hide me. The day will change to night and cover me.” Even the darkness is not dark to you. The night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are the same.

I find encouragement in the fact that I cannot escape the omnipresence of God! That means no matter how dire things may be, I have someone greater right beside me. In fact 1 John 4:4 (KJV) declares…
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

That means we are walking through the valley, weathering the storm and standing in the fire with the Overcomer living in us. In case you need reminding, the Overcomer is Jesus. Remember He said…
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33 NLT

That’s why Paul reminds us in Romans 8:37 (NLT)…
No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

There’s encouragement knowing we have overwhelming victory through the Overcomer, Jesus Christ who LOVES US!

Those last two words compel me to keep reading. Romans 8:38‭-‬39 (NLT) continues…
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

There’s encouragement in knowing that we are loved by God. Psalmist Travis Greene said it perfectly…

I am loved by You
I am loved by You
Just as I am
Feels good to be loved by You

I don’t know if we fully appreciate what it means to be loved by God. I think part of our ignorance could be that we view love from failed human experiences. But Psalms 89:2 (NLT) proclaims…
Your unfailing love will last forever. Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens.

We can trust in God, who’s unfailing love and faithfulness lasts for eternity!

The Holy Spirit is letting me close here with Lamentations 3:22‭-‬23 (KJV) as the bow on top of God’s trustworthy love. The verses say…
It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, Because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: Great is thy faithfulness.

Life may knock us down, but it will never knock us out, because God’s compassion won’t let it. The Lord’s mercies being new every morning is akin to living to fight another day!

So, today regardless what fire, storm or valley you face, trust in God who’s with you and will never fail!

Today’s song is…
Trust In God
