Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today let’s find encouragement to not grow weary.
In today’s scripture, Galatians 6:9-10 (AMP), the Apostle Paul encouraged…
Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in. So then, while we [as individual believers] have the opportunity, let us do good to all people [not only being helpful, but also doing that which promotes their spiritual well-being], and especially [be a blessing] to those of the household of faith (born-again believers).
Consider…
Sometimes doing good can be tiring and frustrating. Especially when others aren’t necessarily good to you, or things don’t go your way.
Some of the good things God requires can seem overwhelming. Like…
- Doing what Jesus said in Luke 6:27-30 (NLT)…“But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, offer the other cheek also. If someone demands your coat, offer your shirt also. Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back.
- Or in the cruel and harsh world, doing what the Apostle Paul exhorts in Colossians 3:12-14 (NLT)…Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
- And how can we truly be expected to heed AP’s additional instructions from Romans 12:17-21 (NLT)…Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the Lord. Instead, “If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.” Don’t let evil conquer you, but conquer evil by doing good.
Let’s be real, being a Christian can sometimes feel like a raw deal. I mean surely God doesn’t want us to accept unjust treatment.
Then again 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT) declares…
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
Christ paying for our sin doesn’t seem just.
Yeah but, there’s no way God can want me to serve others who would betray me and cause me harm.
Then again, John 13:2-5, 10-11 (NLT) shared…
It was time for supper, and the devil had already prompted Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him… Jesus replied, “A person who has bathed all over does not need to wash, except for the feet, to be entirely clean. And you disciples are clean, but not all of you.” For Jesus knew who would betray him. That is what he meant when he said, “Not all of you are clean.”
Jesus washing Judas’ feet knowing that he would betray him doesn’t seem right.
Okay, that’s all good for Jesus, but He was God.
Then again, Philippians 2:5-8 (NLT) exhorts us…
You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
You see, Jesus lived and died doing good for others. The secret to His tireless goodness was humility. You see Jesus is the personification of the two preceding verses we just read…
Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. – Philippians 2:3-4 NLT
Humility sounds like a core tenant of love.
In 1 John 3:16-19 (NLT) we’re told…
We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person? Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions. Our actions will show that we belong to the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before God.
This makes me think of humility as giving up my power to empower someone else. That’s something good we must never grow tired of doing. That’s because in God’s economy, humility is a can’t miss investment.
Notice God’s response to Jesus’ humility in Philippians 2:9-11 (NLT)…
Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Jesus was the most humble person that ever lived, and He never grew weary in doing good. And God rewarded Him with the highest honor bestowed on anyone.
Yet God honoring humility isn’t exclusive to Jesus. 1 Peter 5:6 (NLT) encourages…
So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.
So when you start to grow weary in well doing, remember Jesus’ example and God’s response.
Humility helps even when it hurts.
The more hurtful doing good humbly may seem, have faith the greater the honor from God it will bring.
When doing good, never grow tired. Instead, remember Jesus and be inspired to keep on moving on.
Today’s song is…
Keep On Moving On
