Dependent On God’s Provision (2024-07-02)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today, let’s pay attention to God’s provision.

Today’s scripture, Genesis 1:29‭-‬30 (NLT) says…
Then God said, “Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food. And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground—everything that has life.” And that is what happened.

And in Matthew 6:31‭-‬32 (NLT), Jesus said…
“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs.

Consider…
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a theory of motivation which states that five categories of human needs dictate an individual’s behavior. Those needs are physiological needs, safety needs, love and belonging needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs.

I wonder if Abraham Maslow was actually inspired by Genesis 1-3, when he developed his theory. I say that because his examples of these needs align with scripture:

Even the order of God’s provision aligns

  • First He provided the food (Genesis 1:29)
  • Then He provided the responsibility (Genesis 1:28)
  • Next He provided the companion (Genesis 2:21-22)
  • Lastly, God provided a healthy self esteem. Genesis 2:25 (NLT) says…Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.

Before Maslow theorized about what motivated humans, Jesus taught that all of our needs are already known by our Heavenly Father. And He has already made the necessary provisions. Therefore, don’t worry about anything, but instead pursue God with everything.

When we pursue the spiritual-actualization of our salvation, we can be confident that all of our needs will be met. Jesus said it this way in Matthew 6:33 (NLT)…
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

The Holy Spirit is showing us God’s provision always precedes our needs, and if we will depend wholly on Him, we’ll never want for anything.

Indeed depending on God exclusively will allow us to testify with David…
The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. – Psalms 23:1 NLT

Today, rather than asking God for what you need, which He already knows (Matthew 6:8), try thanking Him for being Jehovah Jireh, which means the Lord will provide.

God doesn’t want you to live life obsessing about your needs, rather He wants you to live glorifying Him because you know that you’ve already got all that you need.

Don’t live like you need it, live like you got it, in Jesus name! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

Today’s song is…
I Got It
