The Great Physician’s Traveling Touch Clinic (2024-06-12)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today let’s look at how people traveled for one touch of the Great Physician’s robe.

Today’s scripture, Matthew 14:35‭-‬36 (NLT) shares…
When the people recognized Jesus, the news of his arrival spread quickly throughout the whole area, and soon people were bringing all their sick to be healed. They begged him to let the sick touch at least the fringe of his robe, and all who touched him were healed.

Consider…
Many of us know the story of the woman with the issue of blood who pressed her way to Jesus. She correctly believed that one touch of His garment would heal her. (Mark 5:25-29). Yet, today’s scripture shows she wasn’t alone in going to CVS (Christ Vanquishing Sickness) one touch clinic.

Why do patients search for doctors who specialize in treating what ails them? The answer is Faith! Faith that the Doctor is ready (trained), willing (experienced), and able (proven track record) to solve their problem.

When we go to Jesus in prayer, we like the people in today’s scripture are going to the Great Physician, believing that He is ready, willing and able to fix what’s broken in us. Some of us, like them, believe so much that all we seek is just one touch.

However there’s one radical difference between the touch many of us seek, and the one that those who recognized Jesus sought. Most of us ask for a touch from Him, whereas the people in today’s scripture sought to touch Him.

How would our prayers differ if we asked to touch the Healer rather than receive a healing touch? There’s a difference. Touching Jesus demonstrates a belief that healing radiates from Him and mere exposure is more than enough to eradicate our sickness. Whereas, asking for a touch says, we see Him as a pharmacist filling prescriptions to make us well. Both beliefs are good, because they share awareness that Jesus is the source of healing. It’s just touching Him is more intimate than wanting a touch from Him.

I believe the Holy Spirit is emphasizing that God wants our faith to mature from asking for a touch to seeking to touch. I say that based on Hebrews 11:6 (ERV), which says…
Without faith no one can please God. Whoever comes to God must believe that he is real and that he rewards those who sincerely try to find him.

You see I believe God wants us to seek Him, not just His touch. Said another way, God wants us to desire Him for who He is, not just for what He can do.

Yes God can heal, but isn’t being connected to the Healer a healthier choice?

Far too often we’re so fixated on getting our wants and needs that we miss the blessings of pursuing the only thing God wants, a relationship with us.

Think of it this way…

  • If I have an up close and intimate relationship with a billionaire, I’ll never worry about being broke
  • If I have an up close and intimate relationship with the Great Physician, I’ll never worry about being sick
  • If I have an up close and intimate relationship with the Way, I’ll never worry about being lost
  • If I have an up close and intimate relationship with the Truth, I’ll never worry about trusting lies
  • If I have an up close and intimate relationship with the Life, I’ll never worry about dying (John 11:25)

Speaking of never dying, I just remembered something else Jesus said, that emphasizes the blessing in experiencing Him. John 6:47‭-‬51 (NLT) quotes…
“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes has eternal life. Yes, I am the bread of life! Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh.”

Wow 😲! Jesus wants us to consume Him! He wants us to fully digest all that He’s done for us…

  • He made us
  • He came to, and for us
  • He died to save us from the penalty of sin
  • He rose to free us from the power of sin
  • He sent the Holy Spirit to live in, and guide us down here on earth
  • He’s preparing our Heavenly home for us
  • And He’s coming back to bring us home

Jesus doesn’t just want to impart things to us, He wants us to recognize Him as the most important part of us. He wants to be our everything. Acts 17:28 (ERV) says it this way…
It is through him that we are able to live, to do what we do, and to be who we are. As your own poets have said, ‘We all come from him.’

What an amazing hidden lesson we found, learning from sick people who believed they would be healed if they touched Jesus.

Hopefully this post expands your way of seeking God for healing (body and soul).
