Remember Who The Lord Is (2024-05-31)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today let’s be diligent about acquiescing to who the Lord is.

Today’s scripture, Deuteronomy 4:39 (ERV) admonishes…
“So today you must remember and accept that the Lord is God. He is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other god!

Consider…
What would you say if I said the God of creation is Lord of all? Would that seem redundant? I mean isn’t Lord synonymous with God?

I have no intention or desire to do a deep dive into the Greek or Hebrew definitions of Lord and God. However, I will say I know the distinction is important to God, because He says, “I am the Lord your God” over 150 times in the Bible.

I believe one significant distinction is how people see God. Many people believe there is a God. Yet, James 2:19 (KJV) admonishes…
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

So believing there is a God, isn’t enough. Clearly, God wants us to acknowledge Him as Lord. We know this because in Mark 12:29‭-‬30 (NLT) Jesus said…
“The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’

Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 6:4-5 as the greatest commandment.

Notice He said the Lord God is the only Lord!

Oxford Languages defines the noun Lord as, someone or something having power, authority, or influence; a master or ruler.

Applying that definition, to God’s greatest commandment, we hear Him saying, I’m the only one in charge! Keep that in mind as you read what God the Father said concerning His humble Son, Jesus in Philippians 2:9‭-‬11 (ERV)…
So God raised him up to the most important place and gave him the name that is greater than any other name. God did this so that every person will bow down to honor the name of Jesus. Everyone in heaven, on earth, and under the earth will bow. They will all confess, “Jesus Christ is Lord,” and this will bring glory to God the Father.

God said, everyone will admit that Jesus is in charge!

I restate God’s words that way, because Jesus being in charge of our lives is what’s lost in translation when we accept Him as Savior. Yet, read carefully the requirements of salvation…
If you openly say, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him from death, you will be saved. Yes, we believe in Jesus deep in our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we openly say that we believe in him, and so we are saved. – Romans 10:9‭-‬10 ERV

What if we encouraged new converts to confess, and acquiesce to giving Jesus full authority over their lives.

I think most of us have the confessing mastered, it’s the acquiescing to Jesus as our Master, that we struggle with. I say this, because Jesus said…
“Not everyone who calls me Lord will enter God’s kingdom. The only people who will enter are those who do what my Father in heaven wants. – Matthew 7:21 ERV

Do you see it? Actions speak louder than words. Us doing what God wants, is the true confession that Jesus is Lord!

Deuteronomy 13:4 (ERV) exhorts…
You must follow the Lord your God. Respect him. Obey his commands and do what he tells you. Serve the Lord your God, and never leave him.

That applies to Jesus too. In fact He said…
…“If you continue to accept and obey my teaching, you are really my followers. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” – John 8:31‭-‬32 ERV

It doesn’t matter if God uses the words command or teach, His expectation is that we learn, accept and obey what He’s telling us to do.

The Holy Spirit gave me the following example to close out today’s remembrance of who the Lord is. When you accept a job, you accept a boss who is in charge of your time, work, assignments, and sets the expectations and requirements of your success. Even more, when you accept Jesus as Lord, you accept a Master who is in charge of your time, work, assignments, and sets the expectations and requirements of your success.

Today, as you go through the day, remember and accept

  • God is Lord of all.
  • God says Jesus is Lord over all
  • You confessed Jesus is Lord of your life.
  • Acquiescent actions speak louder than words

Today live in the way that tells the Lord your God that you love Him with all your, heart, soul, mind and strength!

Today’s song is…
You Are Lord Of All

Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
