Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today, we’ll look at the Holy Spirit filling fulfillment.
Today’s scripture, Acts 2:1-4 (AMP), shares reports…
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place, and suddenly a sound came from heaven like a rushing violent wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. There appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were being distributed [among them], and they rested on each one of them [as each person received the Holy Spirit]. And they were all filled [that is, diffused throughout their being] with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues (different languages), as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out [clearly and appropriately].
Consider…
This week’s focus was inspired by the Pentecost celebration by Christians last Sunday. Yesterday, we looked at Jesus’ mic drop promise of the Holy Spirit’s Filling in Acts 1:8-11. Today we’ll pivot to examining God’s faithful fulfillment of the Holy Spirit’s filling promise.
First, in business, fulfillment is the process of ensuring that all the necessary steps are taken in order to deliver the goods to the customer. This includes packing, labeling, and arranging for a carrier to deliver the goods.
I used the term fulfillment, because what Jesus ordered from Heaven, on our behalf, was God’s power. He promised that power would be packaged and delivered by the Holy Spirit.
Today’s scripture confirms the fulfillment of Jesus’ power order. It also provides some keys to what’s required by recipients to receive God’s promises.
First, we see that you have to be present at the delivery address. Notice, our focus scripture says, “they were all together in one place”. This is interesting, because the omnipresent Holy Spirit isn’t limited by location, but He is restricted by obedience. What I mean by that, is the Holy Spirit only goes where God sends Him. Just like the logistics team of a company only delivers to the specified delivery address on the order, the Holy Spirit also only delivers God’s power where He specifies. That’s key because it reminds us that we have to be where God says in order to receive what He promises. And to make it crystal clear, God’s specified place is in His Will!
At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was sent to one place, which was where the 120 disciples had gathered. And oh by the way, the disciples gathered where Jesus told them to. They obeyed. When we obey what God tells us to do, He will fulfill what He promises He would do.
Stay in God’s will to receive His promises.
A related lesson about being where God says, is that unified obedience will lead to fortified fulfillment.
This observation of the 120 disciples gathered in the one place Jesus told them to be, also makes me think of Jesus’ promise in Matthew 18:19-20 (NLT)…
“I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you. For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them.”
Recall, Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would fill the disciples with power when they gathered, which meant their gathering was the delivery address of His Heavenly order.
The Holy Spirit wants us to recognize how God fortifies believers that gather on one accord in Jesus’ name. That’s because it’s where Jesus promised He would be. Therefore, when God sees believers gathered in unity, He dispatches the Holy Spirit with an extra power portion delivery. For this reason, when more believers gather in unity, the power receiving capacity is increased. This is like the difference between a home delivery one item and a truckload delivery of multiple items to Home Depot. The Holy Spirit can leave more where the capacity allows. Remember, God doesn’t waste His power.
This is part of why it’s vital that we gather and worship and serve God with fellow believers.
Next, in today’s scripture we see that although God fulfills His promises comprehensively, He still focuses individually. That’s important because it’s a reminder that what God has for you, is for you. Believers come together with different experiences, needs, and desires. It’s important to understand unity is not sameness, it’s being on the same accord. So what I need and give to God may be different than what you need and give. Our unity exists in us both seeking to serve, and trusting the same God. Thus, when God shows up and shows out comprehensively, He omnipotently fulfills His promises individually. My observation is based on the part of today’s scripture that said…
There appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were being distributed [among them], and they rested on each one of them [as each person received the Holy Spirit].
God fortifies collectively by filling individually. Everyone of us is needed to reveal the full power of God. The power of His love, mercy, grace and life found in Jesus Christ, given to save this sin-sick, hateful, guilty and dying world.
So show up and be a willing individual in God’s Will collective.
Lastly, I like what our preacher emphasized Sunday, that God gave, and gives power to act on His behalf for His glory and others good. God doesn’t bless us exclusively, He blesses us usefully…
- We’re blessed to be His blessing.
- We’re empowered to share His power.
- We’re given grace to extend His grace
- We’re forgiven to forgive
It’s important we always remember that Christians are extensions of Christ. As a matter of fact, we’re actually called His body. That means we’re given power to do Christ’s bidding. Just like our body parts can only do what our brain tells them to do, the Holy Spirit wants us to remember His power is given only to do what Christ, the Head, wants us to do.
So today, as we celebrate the Holy Spirit’s filling fullment, remember it’s always for God’s glory and purposes, which is for the good of others.
Wow! The Holy Spirit just dropped another mic. He showed me that just like Him, we’re given power by God to empower for God. That means, just like God fulfills His filling in you, He wants to fulfill His filling for others through you.
Today, seek to be God’s fulfillment of Jesus to everyone you encounter.
Don’t just be thankful for the Holy Spirit living in you, show your gratitude by letting Him live through you.
Let’s change our prayer from Holy Spirit come and give to me, to Holy Spirit have your way and live through me.
Today’s song is…
Holy Spirit
Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
