Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today, let’s look at Jesus’ mic drop, promising the Holy Spirit.
Today’s scripture, Acts 1:8-11 (NLT), shares Jesus’ last words before His ascension…
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him. As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!”
Consider…
Today’s focus was initially going to be only on verse 8, but when I kept reading, the Lord showed me something new, in the verses that followed. Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit was a mic drop.
First things first though, Verse 8 shared Jesus’ last words before His ascension.
Let’s review Jesus’ parting words.
- You will receive power. That suggests the disciples were devoid of power. It also infers the disciples where empty vessels that needed to be filled with power. We modern day disciples should also understand we’re powerless empty vessels in need of God’s power filling. (Ephesians 5:18)
- Next, Jesus revealed who the power would come from, the Holy Spirit! But notice, Jesus didn’t say the Holy Spirit would drop off the power, He said the Holy Spirit would come upon them. That makes me think the Holy Spirit Himself is the power from on high. Philippians 2:13 (AMP) explains…For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure…The person of the Triune God doing the work is the Holy Spirit.
- Lastly, Jesus told the disciples why the Holy Spirit would be giving them God’s power. It’s all about telling everyone, everywhere about Jesus. But why do we need the Holy Spirit to empower us to testify about Jesus? I believe Jesus told us the answer in Mark 13:9-11, when He said it wouldn’t be the disciples speaking, but the Holy Spirit. I imagine He’s telling us the same thing. Not our words and thoughts, only the Holy Spirit can testify and share who Jesus is.
Like I said earlier, I originally planned to only review verse 8, until I witnessed what I call a mic drop. I say that because of what transpired after Jesus finished speaking. Verse 9 says…
After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him.
Jesus said, the Holy Spirit is on the way, and left.
As I continued reading, I also found it interesting that the scripture went on to say…
As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven…
The Holy Spirit, said stop looking for the physical Jesus, and start listening to and following the Holy Spirit. We keep wanting physical proof, when God is telling you to pay attention to and trust His Spiritual truth. God provided the Holy Spirit to lead guide and direct us through our lives here on earth. So He’s saying, follow the Holy Spirit’s lead for everything, with everyone. (Galatians 5:16)
Today, as we recall Jesus exiting earth, to prepare eternity, let’s make sure we pay attention to His mic drop and welcome the Holy Spirit’s power into our lives. The Holy Spirit was given to help us live for Jesus more, and serve Him better.
Jesus had to ascend, so that the Holy Spirit could descend, in order for us to fully comprehend, who God is.
Power up for Christ, with the Holy Spirit, that God sent down!
Today’s song is….
Let Your Spirit Fall
