Pray & Trust The Answerer (2024-05-06)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

I am excited to see what the Lord will reveal about this week’s theme of prayer & trust. His first revelation is the requirement for unwavering faith in God when we pray.

Today’s scripture, James 1:6‭-‬8 (NLT), admonishes…
But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

Consider…
Have you ever encountered a person who wouldn’t fully commit to something or someone. Instead, they tried to “sit on the fence” or “hedge their bet”. If you have dealt with this type of person, I imagine you grew increasingly frustrated, because their noncommittal ways reveal they’re unreliable and untrustworthy.

Today’s scripture shares God’s attitude towards fence sitting, bet hedging people who pray to Him. He considers them disloyal and unstable. 🤯 God says, don’t bother talking to Me if you question Who ‘I Am’, and what I can do, regardless of what I choose to do.

God says, it’s okay to be uncertain about the answer, just not the Answerer.

This highlights a key distinction between nervousness about an answer versus lack of confidence in the person being asked.

Imagine going to a Heart Specialist to check out irregularities in your heartbeat. And you also see an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor, as well as a Plastic surgeon for the same issue. As silly as that shot gun approach sounds, it’s what we do with God. We ask Him for help with an issue, and before we get off our knees we call Mama and ’em, and our closest friends for help and advice on the same issue. Rather than waiting to hear from God, we try to hustle our way to the answer we desire.

Could it be our wavering is due to being leary of God’s answer, to selfish prayers? Is it because we’re more self-gratifying than God-glorifying in our requests? Or could it be our faith muscle is flabby because of it’s lack of exercise? I encourage you to figure out your reason to not…
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. – 1 Peter 5:7 NLT

It dawned on me that people switch the resources when the Source doesn’t respond when and how they desire. They’ve decided what the answer should be, and seek out those with the ability and willingness, to give them their way. However, unauthorized services are not warrantied by the Manufacturer. So trust others to do what God won’t at your own risk.

It’s also clear to me that oft times, believers behave like children who pivot between parents to get their way, rather than following the parent’s way. When our Heavenly Father (the Source) says no, we pivot to earthly resources who will say yes. The problem is when you subtract ‘Source’ from resource, you just have the prefix ‘re’, which means do something again or go back. Doing things our way, versus God’s way, always result in a set back in fulfilling God’s purpose and plan for our lives.

As I write this, I realize it may not necessarily be a question of doubting God, but rather not accepting His authority, will, and way when it conflicts with our own. I believe that’s because we focus on what satisfies, when God is focused on what sanctifies.

So today stop worrying about the answer, and just pray & trust the Answerer!

Today’s song is….
I Believe God

Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
