You’re Not An Accident (2024-05-04)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today we’ll close out the week celebrating and embracing the fact that we’re not accidents.

Today’s scripture, Jeremiah 1:5 (ERV), shares God speaking to Jeremiah…
“Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I chose you for a special work. I chose you to be a prophet to the nations.”

Consider…
This week, we purposely investigated God’s word for wisdom regarding accidents.

Today we close with a wonderful truth, which is God made us on purpose. Psalms 139:13‭-‬16 (NLT) says it this way…
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

Have you ever thought about the meticulous work God did making you? In Matthew 10:30 (NLT), Jesus said…
The very hairs on your head are all numbered.

Both preceding passages are proof that God made you on purpose.

I believe we embrace the truth of being intentionally made by God, when we feel worthy. But what about those times when we feel disconnected, as described in Isaiah 64:7‭-‬8 (ERV)? The prophet confessed to God…
We don’t call to you for help. We aren’t excited about following you, so you have turned away from us. We are helpless before you, because we are full of sin. But, Lord, you are our father. We are like clay, and you are the potter. Your hands made us all.

Think of the intimacy of being made by God’s hands. It means the Creator of the universe, personally touched you.

Knowing that I’ve been touched by God, makes me hum these old song lyrics…

Shackled by a heavy burden
‘Neath a load of guilt and shame
Then the hand of Jesus touched me
And now I am no longer the same
He touched me, oh, He touched me
And oh, the joy that floods my soul
Something happened, and now I know
He touched me, and made me whole
Since I’ve met this blessed Savior
Since He’s cleansed and made me whole
Oh, I will never cease to praise Him (to praise Him)
I’ll shout it while eternity rolls
Oh, He touched me, oh He touched me, He touched me
And oh, the joy that floods my soul
Something happened and now I know
He touched me and made me whole

Genesis 2:7 (NLT), says…
Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.

Not only did God touch us, He breathed life into us.

That makes think of John 1:4 (NLT), which says…
The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.

Jesus gave us life from the beginning, and He wants to give us life that has no end. (John 11:26)

Clearly, God wanted and wants us to live!

In the midst of celebrating God’s will for us to live, I find myself still reflecting the prophet Isaiah’s reference to us as clay in Isaiah 64:8.

There’s an interesting thing about clay, not only is shaped according to the Potter’s will, it can also be reshaped into something new whenever He chooses.

The Holy Spirit reminded me that God not only formed us in our mother’s womb, He’s also transforming us, who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, into the image of His only begotten Son. Romans 8:29 (KJV) explains…
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

God made us physically and is remaking us spiritually, into what He desires us to be, like Christ.

Okay, that’s awesome! We’re special! Yet, in God’s eyes, we’re all special. Job reminded a friend of that fact, in the midst of his tragedies. In Job 33:6 (ERV), Job told his friend…
You and I are the same before God. He used clay to make us both.

Yes, you are special, but no more, or less than anyone else. God extends His favor to everyone (Matthew 5:44-45). He favors no one above anyone else (Job 34:19).

We should remain humble as God is intentionally perfecting us who believe in Jesus Christ the Lord, because it’s not about how special we are, but how loving He is. Romans 5:6‭-‬8 (NLT) explains…
When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

That means God perfectly made imperfect people, and sent His Son to perfect them for Him. It’s all part of His plan, which He shared in Ephesians 3:6 (NLT)…
And this is God’s plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus.

In addition to revealing His plan, God also explained the purpose of His plan, in Ephesians 3:10‭-‬11 (NLT)…
God’s purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was his eternal plan, which he carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord.

That means we were physically made for His spiritual glory. And that He intentionally made us temporary beings to bring Him eternal glory.

Hopefully reading through this today, helped you realize that you were made on purpose by God, for His purpose.

You’re not an accident, so live on purpose for God!

Today’s song is….
