Believing In Accidents? (2024-05-02)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today we’ll explore the origin of our faith.

Today’s scripture, Genesis 1:1 (NLT), declares…
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Consider…
One of my favorite sitcoms is the ‘The Big Bang Theory’. The comedy is about Mensa-fied best friends and roommates, who are physicists dropping science about quantum physics with ease, but struggling through most basic social situations, especially ones involving women.

The title of the show is also a theory many people believe is how the universe began. According to some people, the universe began with an accidental explosion.

A Google search returned the following information…
The Big Bang was the moment 13.8 billion years ago when the universe began as a tiny, dense, fireball that exploded. Most astronomers use the Big Bang theory to explain how the universe began. But what caused this explosion in the first place is still a mystery.

I would add, where did the tiny dense fireball come from?

Today’s scripture is alternative belief about how the universe began. In fact Hebrews 11:3 (NLT) makes that point. It says…
By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.

My goal here is not to debate the theories of evolution and creation, but to highlight the core question both raise about life. Do you believe your life is comprised of a series of accidents, or based on the providential plan of God?

The debate over the universe’s origin is really just the discord about faith.

Hebrews 11:1 (NLT) says…
Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.

Notice, the verse says, “what we hope for”. That makes me think of the old hymn lyrics…

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name
On Christ the solid rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

You see, believing is not a question of faith, but of ‘hope’. Think about it, the more hope you have that something is true, the more belief you have that you will see the evidence that it is.

The truth is, everyone lives life according to their hypotheses.

According to Oxford Languages, a hypothesis is a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.

Debaters of evolution and creation, aren’t really investigating the universe’s origin, as much as they’re both trying to explain the origin, and responsibilities, of their lives.

For the person who believes life is a series of accidents, there’s no accountability to anyone for anything, because life is just a ‘crap shoot’ that ends when you die. However, for the individual who believes life is the providential plan of God, that leads to an eternal life, there’s an accountability to HIM!

You see accident-minded living is no-hope believing, and leads to YOLO (You Only Live Once) lifestyles. But eternity-minded living, hopes for life beyond this one, and seeks to live now in hope of living forever.

That’s what Colossians 3:1‭-‬2 (ERV) exhorts believers to do…
You were raised from death with Christ. So live for what is in heaven, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God. Think only about what is up there, not what is here on earth.

Those who believe in God, hope for Heaven, while living on earth.

The Holy Spirit showed me something else both evolutionists and creationists have in common. Everyone is seeking to pursue and prove what they believe. Then He said, God wants us to pursue and prove He’s real! His scriptural reference was Hebrews 11:6 (ERV), which says…
Without faith no one can please God. Whoever comes to God must believe that he is real and that he REWARDS THOSE WHO SINCERELY TRY TO FIND HIM.

Sometimes, I believe we can overcomplicate what God wants. He simply wants to be the One!

So today, if you’re an eternity hope minded believer, keep pursuing and proving, by your lifestyle that your hypothesis of God’s providential plan for your life is to spend eternity with Him.

It’s not an accident that God allowed the ‘Big Bang Theory’ to evolve, because it makes some people question the origin of everything, which ironically is still Him! How else can you explain nothing becoming something as the origin of everything?

Hope for Heaven, while you live here on earth, because your life’s not an accident, it’s part of God’s providential plan.

Today’s song is….
Not My Home

Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
