Pre-Chosen (2024-04-24)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today we’ll celebrate being Pre-Chosen by God.

In today’s scripture, Galatians 1:15 (ERV), the Apostle Paul shared…
But God had special plans for me even before I was born. So he chose me through his grace.

And similarly, in Jeremiah 1:5 (ERV), God told the prophet Jeremiah…
“Before I made you in your mother’s womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I chose you for a special work. I chose you to be a prophet to the nations.”

Consider…
There are no accidents, by God! Every person born was Pre-Chosen by God for a purpose here on earth. This pre-selection process began in creation, when God said…
Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. – Genesis 1:26‭-‬27 NLT

God chose mankind to be His image-bearers here on earth. Let that fact reasonate. You’re special to God because He chose you! Always remember to thank God, like the Psalmist who declared…
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvellous are thy works; And that my soul knoweth right well. – Psalm 139:14 KJV

Always remember you are here because He pre-chose you to be.

So, if we’re made in the image of God, why do so many of us have such poor self-images like…

  • Moses, who God told to speak for Him, but responded by telling the Lord about his speech impediment (Exodus 4:10-12),
  • And Gideon, whom the Lord addressed as a mighty man of valor, but he proceeded to tell God how unqualified he was to do what God chose him to do (Judges 16:12-16)

When’s the last time that you questioned what God chose you to do?

As I pondered this question personally, I asked the Holy Spirit to show me why we question our Creator’s wisdom for choosing us. He led me to the beginning for the answer…

  • First, He had me read Genesis 2:25 (KJV), which simply says, “And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.” When God first made Adam and fashioned Eve, they only saw themselves through God’s eyes.
  • Next the Holy Spirit had me read Genesis 3:7 (KJV), which was just after Adam and Eve disobeyed God. It says, “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.” The Holy Spirit told me that the shame of sin makes us see ourselves as inadequate, insufficient and unworthy.
  • Then Holy Spirit pointed out the issue revealed in Adam and Eve was misguided self-talk. He showed me this in God’s response to Adam’s excuse for hiding. Genesis 3:11 (KJV) says, “And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?” God is still asking us, “who told you that you’re inadequate, insufficient, and unworthy?”

The Holy Spirit then explained it more succinctly using God’s rejection of David’s brother Eliab in 1 Samuel 16:7 (ERV)
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Eliab is tall and handsome, but don’t judge by things like that. God doesn’t look at what people see. People judge by what is on the outside, but the Lord looks at the heart. Eliab is not the right man.”

The Holy Spirit said that our self-image is skewed when we base it on what we see outwardly, rather than what the Lord makes us believe inwardly.

He says, stop believing what we see, and start believing what God’s said…

We will see ourselves differently when we believe Ephesians 1:4 (ERV)…
In Christ, he chose us before the world was made. He chose us in love to be his holy people—people who could stand before him without any fault.

We will see ourselves differently when we believe 1 Thessalonians 5:9 (ERV)…
God did not choose us to suffer his anger. God chose us to have salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

We will see ourselves differently when we believe 2 Timothy 1:9 (ERV)…
God saved us and chose us to be his holy people, but not because of anything we ourselves did. God saved us and made us his people because that was what he wanted and because of his grace. That grace was given to us through Christ Jesus before time began.

We will see ourselves differently when we believe 2 Corinthians 1:21 (ERV)…
And God is the one who makes you and us strong in Christ. God is also the one who chose us for his work.

We will see ourselves differently when we believe Ephesians 1:11 (ERV)…
In Christ we were chosen to be God’s people. God had already planned for us to be his people, because that is what he wanted. And he is the one who makes everything agree with what he decides and wants.

You will see yourself differently when you believe, “He chose me.”

Today, stop telling God what you see, and instead believe what He’s said.

Today, stop looking at yourself as inadequate, insufficient, and unworthy, and start believing you’re simply God’s choice.

God doesn’t choose the qualified, He pre-qualifies His pre-chosen.

So today, whatever God asks you to do or face, embrace it in His grace with complete confidence. And when it seems too hard, remind yourself, He Chose Me 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Today’s song is….
He Chose Me

Blessings 4HG (1 Corinthians 10:31)
