Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today we’ll conclude our focus on spiritual observations from an eclipse, by focusing on eternity’s light.
Today’s scripture, Revelation 21:23-25 (NLT), says…
And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light. The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the world will enter the city in all their glory. Its gates will never be closed at the end of day because there is no night there.
Consider…
One of my favorite Christmas hymns is ‘Jesus, The Light Of The World’. It’s lyrics are…
Hark! the herald angels sing.
Jesus, the light of the world.
Glory to the newborn King,
Jesus, the light of the world.
Joyful, all you nations, rise.
Jesus, the light of the world.
Join the triumph of the skies.
Jesus, the light of the world.
Christ, by highest heav’n adored.
Jesus, the light of the world.
Christ, the everlasting Lord,
Jesus, the light of the world.
Hail the heav’n-born Prince of Peace.
Jesus, the light of the world.
Hail, the Sun of righteousness!
I especially love bellowing this hymn’s refrain…
Jesus, the light of the world. [Refrain]
We’ll walk in the light, beautiful light.
Come where the dewdrops of mercy shine bright.
Oh, shine all around us by day and by night.
Jesus, the light of the world.
Imagine walking in a world where Jesus’ light shines all around you. 🌞 Well, today’s scripture describes that world to us vividly. It says…
- There’s no need for the created light-bearers, the sun and moon
- The ‘glory’ of God illuminates the city
- The Lamb is the city’s light
- The nations will walk in the light
- The City will have open access all the time, because it’s gates will never be closed
- The City will always be “lit” (turned up), because there’s no night there. That means it’s literally all day everyday!
As amazing as that city sounds, we don’t have to wait to walk in eternity’s light. That’s because according to Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NLT)…
God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
This beautiful time of never-ending Son-Light, described in today’s scripture, has been planted in our hearts. But the Ecclesiastes verse goes on to say that we cannot see the whole scope of God’s work. This makes me think of John 1:5 (NASB1995), which says…
The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
Nevertheless, according to 2 Corinthians 4:6 (NLT)…
God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.
The fact that God shines His light in our hearts illuminates something very important about seeing Jesus, which is we see Him with our heart not our eyes.
I believe part of the challenge we have walking through this life here on earth, is we’re led by what we can outwardly see, touch and feel, rather than what the Lord is inwardly trying to reveal. We’re walking by sight, even though He’s told us to walk by faith (2 Corinthians 5:7)
The Holy Spirit continued to walk me through this heart illumination, by showing me Romans 10:10-11 (ERV), which says…
Yes, we believe in Jesus deep in our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we openly say that we believe in him, and so we are saved. Yes, the Scriptures say, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disappointed.”
While I am writing this, Michael W Smith’s song is still playing on a loop in my mind…
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You
Just now the Holy Spirit walked me to the wisdom of Proverbs 4:23 (NLT), which says…
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
God is saying protect the place that allows you to see Me. Don’t let anything obstruct it’s view of me.
Quickly, the Holy Spirit rushed me over to Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6:19-21 (NLT)…
Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
With that, the Lord asked me, and you, what do you treasure? He also changed the song on my playlist to Hillsong, who is singing…
This is my desire
To honor You
Lord, with all my heart
I worship You
All I have within me
I give You praise
All that I adore
Is in You
Lord, I give You my heart
I give You my soul
I live for you alone
And every breath that I take
Every moment I’m awake
Lord, have Your way in me
God is saying that when you truly treasure me, your heart will seek me and you will find me. The Spirit then re-emphasized the importance of faith, by retweeting Hebrews 11:6 (ERV) to my heart’s spiritual media…
Without faith no one can please God. Whoever comes to God must believe that he is real and that he rewards those who sincerely try to find him.
Imagine walking through each day focused on reaching today’s description of eternity instead of our present reality. We would no longer be limited or discouraged by what we see, but live strengthened and encourage being led by the Light of Eternity.
Here’s the power connection that allows us to turn eternity’s light on in every situation. Jesus is the Light! That’s what He said in John 8:12 (ERV)…
Later, Jesus talked to the people again. He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never live in darkness. They will have the light that gives life.”
If Jesus strongly says, whoever follows me will never live in darkness, do we really think ‘never’ is limited to a hope for eternity? I don’t, I believe it means we can walk in His light here and now on this earth. I believe that because Ephesians 5:8 (NLT) tells me…
For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!
So today, before you open your eyes to physically see, open your heart to the Light of Eternity. Trust Him to show you which way you need to go, to discover everything that He wants you to know.
If you walk with Jesus, you’ll be walking in Eternity’s Light!
Today’s Song…
Jesus Is The Light
