God’s Adversity Inversion (2024-01-12)

Welcome to another day the Lord has made that we should rejoice and be glad in. (Psalms 118:24)

Today we’ll look at God’s inverse solutions to our adverse situations.

In Judges 7:2‭-‬7 NLT
God’s inverse response to overwhelming adversity…
The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many warriors with you. If I let all of you fight the Midianites, the Israelites will boast to me that they saved themselves by their own strength. Therefore, tell the people, ‘Whoever is timid or afraid may leave this mountain and go home.’” So 22,000 of them went home, leaving only 10,000 who were willing to fight. But the Lord told Gideon, “There are still too many! Bring them down to the spring, and I will test them to determine who will go with you and who will not.” When Gideon took his warriors down to the water, the Lord told him, “Divide the men into two groups. In one group put all those who cup water in their hands and lap it up with their tongues like dogs. In the other group put all those who kneel down and drink with their mouths in the stream.” Only 300 of the men drank from their hands. All the others got down on their knees and drank with their mouths in the stream. The Lord told Gideon, “With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Send all the others home.”

Consider…
Today I want to start with the main point. We can do a hundred times as much with God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit than we can do with multitudes of others. Just ask Gideon from today’s scripture, he defeated 135,000 Midianites with 300 men, 300 trumpets and 300 torches under God’s power.

So whatever adversity we face, we should remind ourselves that, “in all these troubles we have complete victory through God, who has shown his love for us.” – Romans 8:37 ERV

Through God’s inverse solution to Gideon’s overwhelming adversity we see confirmation of 1 John 4:4 (NLT)…
But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

I believe David knew this truth when He said to Goliath…
“You come to me using sword, spear, and javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord All-Powerful, the God of the armies of Israel. You have said bad things about him. Today the Lord will let me defeat you. I will kill you. I will cut off your head and feed your body to the birds and wild animals. And we will do the same thing to all the other Philistines too. Then all the world will know there is a God in Israel. All the people gathered here will know that the Lord doesn’t need swords or spears to save people. The battle belongs to the Lord, and he will help us defeat all of you.” – 1 Samuel 17:45‭-‬47 ERV

Imagine speaking that confidently about your bigger God to your giant adversity. Or just declaring Romans 8:31b (NLT)…
If God is for us, who can ever be against us?

Again, today is about encouraging you to face any adversity knowing that…
Every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. – 1 John 5:4 NLT

Gideon and David both demonstrated complete faith in God by using less by the world’s standard, 300 and a slingshot respectively, to overcome overwhelming adversity. Therein lies the secret to overcoming adversity, complete faith in and obedience to God. Don’t be surprised when He uses less of you to reveal more of Him!

Now, trust God’s adversity inversion and declare ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts. – Zechariah 4:6b NASB1995

Trust God to turn your trials into triumphs and tests into testimonies!
